Quite simply, wood is heavy. Furniture is bulky. Some couriers simply won't quote for some of my larger pieces. Those that do often quote in the hundreds of pounds, even for deliveries to UK mainland addresses.

I pay similar delivery charges for my raw materials and larger pieces of machinery.

It may well be cheaper for you to hire a van and collect your pieces yourself. You are welcome to do so if you wish.

Because the require both slightly more material and considerably more time to make. An edge grain board can be made without the need for any "glue ups". In contrast, an ed grain cutting board requires several glue ups. Perhaps a dozen or more for more complicated designs. Each glue up is followed by cutting and sizing several strips of wood before the final piece is assembled.

Making an edge grain board is a few hours work. An end grain cutting board could require several weeks work.. But the effort is worthwhile: edge grain boards can last a lot longer than edge grain boards. And many people think they are more beautiful.
